Make room, vitamin C—there’s another important vitamin that shares the title of powerful antioxidant. While many focus on the more subtle benefits of vitamin D (such as musculoskeletal integrity, immune function, skin health), longevity should not be overlooked.*

Adequate vitamin D (ie, achieving and maintaining healthy D levels in the body) promotes smooth aging by helping to regulate antioxidant activity, balance mitochondrial function, combat oxidative stress, and ultimately protect that precious DNA.*

And 2019 is the year Pharmacological research A meta-analysis found that vitamin D supplements help increase in total antioxidant capacity1 and serum levels of the major antioxidant glutathione, both of which are extremely beneficial in promoting oxidative balance (i.e., antioxidants knock out oxidants) throughout the body.* Vitamin D Signaling Pathways protect proteins, fatty acids and DNA2 (more on that later) from oxidation by combating reactive oxygen species (ROS).*

Unfortunately, the issue of vitamin D status in our country greatly affects whether your body can fully utilize these antioxidant effects. considering 41% of American adults are deficient in vitamin D33 and 29% are dealing with outright vitamin D deficiency, it’s clear that intentionally getting enough vitamin D on a daily basis plays an important role in your body’s antioxidant network and its ability to fight free radicals.*
