Do you ever feel like the joy in your life is gone? Like you’re living in Groundhog Day? Do you feel the same today as yesterday and the same as the day before? Yes, me too. It’s a horrible and depressing way to live. You are not alone. Many people feel this way today. The last 3 years of battling COVID, surviving a global pandemic and spending so much time in isolation mean it’s been easy to feel overwhelmed. You may feel like you’ve lost your spark or joy in life. This could be an indicator that your sacred energy is off the grid.

The sacral chakra governs sensuality, sexuality and pleasure. This is the base of Kundalini, where our creative potential lies.

If you’re looking for a way to unleash your creativity this year, to bring your inner artist out of hiding, the sacral chakra is the energy center to focus on.

Balanced Sacral Chakra (Svadisthana)

When your sacral chakra is healthy, you can source your own energy for creativity, movement, procreation, desire, pleasure, and relationships. You are better able to express what you want and need, not just in intimate relationships, but in all relationships. In healthy balance, this chakra helps you move from survival to prioritizing pleasure in your days.

When the sacral chakra is out of whack, you may experience any of the following: chronic lower back pain, ovarian cysts or other reproductive problems, impotence, bladder, pelvic floor, and kidney problems.

Blocked chakras can also greatly affect the quality of our mind and thoughts. Mentally, this can manifest as: Difficulty in expressing our emotions and needs, loss of sexual fantasies or lack of interest in sex together.

Our bodies are extremely intelligent and precise in how they signal to us when we are out of balance. I remember when I was in my 20s, I was in a very turbulent relationship. I was obsessed with this guy and let’s just say we were over the top sexy and very dramatic in every way! I had constant hip pain and ovarian cysts. When I read about the deeper meaning of these things, I realized that I was in an unhealthy relationship. I had no sense of the sanctity of sex or my body in any way. The guy kept changing his mind about whether we were in a monogamous relationship or not. It was really chaotic and it was stressful on both my body and mind.

I ended the relationship and was not surprised that the pain and cysts went away on their own shortly after. “Ah…” I thought, “now my body can go back to normal.”

Life teaches us many lessons, and if we are attuned to the sensitive signal of our chakras telling us where we need to come back into alignment, we can make adjustments to bring our body and mind back into balance.

How to strengthen the energy of the sacral chakra

  • Dance every day! Allow yourself to feel your body move to the music..especially move your hips and pelvis, open that pleasure zone.
  • Do satkriya for 3 minutes a day (as we do in this sacral chakra practice), it awakens your creativity and your life.
  • Take a candlelit bath, ignite your feelings. Massage your skin with oil, take the time to pamper yourself and feel the sensation on your skin.
  • Attend a belly dance class! Ha, I wish we could do this together!
  • Express your creativity, as it was in childhood. Draw, write, draw… even go roller skating! Do what fires you up. It’s time to make it a priority.

Most of all, enjoy it! This chakra reminds us to bring fun, joy and enjoyment back into our lives. Allow yourself to start enjoying your life more, in both the small and big ways… keep going, I challenge you!

Don’t forget you can also practice with me on Wanderlust TV balancing the sacral chakra in my Swadisthana class, then continue your practice with this 10 minute journaling exercise:
