In a randomized clinical trial (RCT), researchers at Columbia University and Harvard Medical School randomly assigned 3,500 participants age 60 and older to take a standard multivitamin (Centrum Silver) or a placebo daily. Their baseline brain function was assessed before the study and then annually for three years.

Participants who took a daily multivitamin were found to have significantly better immediate memory after one year compared to the control group, as well as better average memory over the three-year study period.* In fact, taking a daily multivitamin was shown to clearly slow cognitive aging by 3 ,1 year.*

Researchers have concluded that daily multivitamin use by older adults may help improve memory and increase overall brain life.* Of course, multivitamins should not be used as a substitute for a healthy, well-balanced diet or lifestyle (such as good sleep, regular exercise ). activity, proper hydration, etc.), but rather a complementary approach to maintaining cognitive health as we age.*
