Is it safe to wear body butter in the sun? From a dermatologist

First, “It’s dangerous to tan with or without body oil,” board-certified dermatologist Rebecca Marcus, MD, FAAD, tells mindbodygreen.
Tanning increases the risk of skin cancer and signs of premature aging, such as hyperpigmentation and fine lines, she said. Still, does body butter increase this risk?
Unfortunately yes. “Using a body oil, even with high-quality ingredients, can interfere with the absorption of sunscreen and can even attract and intensify the sun’s rays, increasing the risk of sunburn,” explains Marcus.
So while you may want to keep your skin looking super radiant on the beach or out for a walk on a sunny day, it might be better to stick to a water-based lotion and save the body butter for later.
You can use body oil along with sunscreen; just make sure you wear sunscreen first, then wait 15 minutes before applying body butter, Marcus says.
