Casper Nova Hybrid review, tested and medically tested

Motion transfer: 5/5

Motion isolation testing allows us to better understand what motion transfer occurs when you move around the bed. A bed with minimal movement transfer is especially great for light sleepers – less movement transfer ensures a more restful sleep.

To test this, testers placed a glass jar of matcha on the bed while walking across the mattress to the glass. The more the glass breaks, the more movement the bed transmits. We found the Nova to have excellent motion isolation.

This is great news for those who share a bed with a partner who turns over, or for people who let their pets sleep next to them.

Sensitivity: 3/5

Responsiveness refers to how springy the surface of the mattress is, which helps show how easy it is to change positions throughout the night. We found the Nova Hybrid to have very little bounce, which makes sense since it’s made from layers of body-hugging foam. A less responsive mattress may be harder to move around, but it provides better pressure relief.

Pressure relief: 5/5

We tested how well this mattress relieves pressure by observing how far a 32-pound weight sinks after being placed on the surface of the bed, and how our testers feel when lying in various positions on the mattress.

The mattress really held the weight, which helps demonstrate how well it provides pressure relief. When our testers were lying on the bed, they felt cradled and supported in all sleeping positions.

Edge support: 3/5

Good edge support is of great importance when choosing a mattress. This helps prevent slipping or sliding off the bed and contributes to the overall durability of the structure.

To test the edge support of this bed, we invited testers to lie on the edge of the mattress in several different sleeping positions. This helped us to find out if the bed was supportive when lying on it.

Like other memory foam hybrids, the Nova Hybrid has good edge support. The coils add extra support to the edges, but the soft memory foam layers of the bed are too plush to provide real support.
