In 2020, life expectancy in Japan was 84.7 years, with women living an average of 87.7 years and men living an average of 81.6 years. This longevity can be explained by a number of factors, including a low prevalence of obesity, regular physical activity, less consumption of red meat and a diet high in fish, omega-3, plant foods rich in polyphenols and micronutrients.
Interestingly, this study found that despite the high average life expectancy in Japan, people can extend their lives even further by adopting healthy lifestyle habits. In other words? Even already healthy people can benefit from small habits that support longevity.
